Online Therapy

This all sounds great, but…

So, you have read through my website and know we would be great together… but alas, you are not willing to commute eight hours to our weekly sessions.

I get it. It is hard enough finding a therapist you click with… let alone someone whose office is conveniently located near your home or office.

For those of you who are far away, I offer online therapy.

Times are changing…

Here we are in the 21st century. People’s lives are busy, and we all have to do what we can to make things work.

I believe that therapy should be accessible, so I don’t want location to be a barrier.

There are also many reasons why online therapy might fit better into your life. Maybe you work from home, have a schedule that changes weekly, or take care of an aging parent who you don’t want to leave during the day.

How online therapy works…

I use an online platform through my practice software that provides secure, HIPAA-compliant video conferencing (which means your privacy is secure). You can access our session via a link on your computer or through a free app you can download to your phone (I will send you all the details before our first session).

From there, online therapy is just like regular, in-office therapy. We will get to know each other, define your goals, and work to address what brought you to therapy in the first place.

The benefit is that you can do a session from the comfort of your home or wherever you find yourself. The only limiting factors are a strong Internet connection and privacy around your computer!

Online therapy isn’t right for everyone…

Someone struggling with depression, for example, might really benefit from having to get up, shower, get dressed and drive to an appointment to create some movement and momentum in the day.

Someone else, who has social anxiety, might prefer to do therapy from the comfort of their home – but the convenience might keep them stuck. I have found that while therapy can be a powerful catalyst for change, I don’t want the process to enable the very behaviors we might be trying to shift.

Lastly, online therapy is not a good fit for those whose mental health has deteriorated to a point of suicidality. As a therapist, I am always assessing for safety and danger; and I want my clients to have the full support that they deserve.

For some, that means in-person therapy with a provider who can make a full, comprehensive assessment that online therapy simply can’t provide. Everyone deserves the help and support they need, and for some the location of that support is a critical component of their care.

During your free 20-minute phone consultation, I will assess whether online therapy is a good solution for you.
